2008 THUNDER TRUCK RULES
ELIGIBILITY
The only trucks to be used will be Chevy S10, GMC S15, Ford Ranger and Dodge Dakota.
APPEARANCE
1. Stock factory steel bodies ONLY, complete including tailgate.
2. Inner panels may be removed below factory belt line.
3. Door window openings must remain stock with complete factory door headers.
4. Windshield and back window openings must remain stock factory construction.no fillers in the windshield.
5. Wiper panel must be in place.
6. No hood scoops of any kind. This includes any factory options or up-level vehicles. No hole in hood.
7. Hood crown must remain factory stock.
8. Stock bumpers only, which may also be reinforced. No visible crash bars-front and rear.
9. Wheel opening flanges must be turned inboard.
10. Stock appearing rockers (size & location). No body-side skirts below rockers. No rear skirts. This measurement from the top of box to bottom of rocker must be longer than 32 inches.
11. Truck must have front and rear factory firewall. No holes showing.
12. Rub rails made of one-inch square tubing will be allowed.
13. Rear deck may be covered with aluminum or steel and have a hinged lid over the fuel cell.
14. Rear deck cover must be flat and flush with top of box. Must run full length of box.
15. All trucks must be neatly painted and lettered. The truck must have a number of no less then 18 inches on each door and roof. Roof number must face grandstand side.
16. Badly damaged trucks will have to be repaired.
17. Spoilers must be 8 inches high and the width of the truck bed.
CHASSIS
1. Stock truck frames must be used. Frames must remain stock width. Frame may be added.
2. Frame lighting holes not allowed.
3. Roll cages will be 6-point design with 1 1/2 inch minimum diameter with .095 wall tubing with a minimum of 3 bars in each door. Each door bar must be single piece construction.
4. Saddled tubing joints recommend. If not, gussets are required.
5. Ext cab on short bed wheelbase frame OK. Must remain with original manufactures wheelbase.
6. WEIGHT 3400 LBS. 54% LEFT SIDE, 49% REAR, AFTER FEATURE WITH DRIVER IN TRUCK.

SUSPENSION, SPRINGS AND SHOCKS
1. Racing coil springs may be used with a minimum of 5 inch diameter-front only.
2. Weight jack bolts will be allowed on front coils only.
3. Rear left springs must remain in stock locations. No rear coils.
4. Rear leaf springs must retain stock main leaf. Other leafs may be added or subtracted to maintain proper spring rates. Rear sliders or shackles allowed.
5. No coil-overs allowed. No coil-over eliminators allowed.
6. Any steel body non-adjustable or rebuildable racing shocks may be used.
7. Upper A-Arm may be tubular and in stock location. Upper A-frames may be notched for weight jack bolts. Lower A-frames must be stock and in stock location.
8. Any factory spindle may be used. No aftermarket or tubular spindles may be used. No wide 5 hubs.
9. Strap for drive shaft required.
10. Drive shaft must be painted white.
STEERING
1. Steering box must remain stock to frame. Original equipment ONLY.
2. Minimum of 2 universals in steering shaft.
3. Steering quickener may be used.
REAR END
1. No quick changes.
2. 9 inch Ford rear end allowed.
3. No floater rear end. No aluminum. No wide 5 hubs.
4. Rear ends may be locked.
5. Maximum rear track width of 74 inches as measured from outside sidewall of left rear tire to outside sidewall of right rear tire.
BRAKES
1. Must have 4 wheel brakes working at all times.
2. Drum brakes on the rear ONLY.
3. No aluminum calipers. Stock caliper cast iron ONLY.
4. Dual master cylinder/pedal assembly with brake adjuster may be used.
5. No brake shutoffs of any kind.
ENGINES
1. Any V-8 or 6 cylinder engine may be used.
2. Any engine may be used in any truck.
3. No aluminum heads or blocks. No roller cams or lifters.
4. Only one Holley 4412-2 barrel carburetor allowed. Must pass No-Go gauge.
5. Choke plate may be removed.
6. Adapter plate OK. (Remember no hood scoops)
7. Aluminum intakes OK.
8. Stock cast iron exhaust. Any under car headers.
9. No crank trigger ignition. No magnetos.
ENGINE CLAIM
Engine claim will be $950 plus exchange $800 for engine, $50 to the wrecker to remove both engines and $100 non-refundable filing fee. (This fee will be added to the truck points fund)
A claim does not include:
1. Flywheel
2. Clutch assembly
3. Bell housing
4. Exhaust/Headers
5. Carburetor and adapter
6. Intake
7. Starter
8. Motor mounts
9. Sending units for gauges
10. Fan and pulleys
11. Water pump and Fuel pump
12. Distributor and wires
13. Water outlet and restrictor
The top 3 finishers are subject to the claim.
To claim an engine you must finish on the same lap as the winner of the race. The driver claiming the engine must drive directly to the claim area and state his/her claim to an official and have claim money with them within 3 minutes of feature finish. Only the driver can accept or refuse a claim. Refusal of claim will forfeit all winnings and points for the night. A second refusal will eliminate participation from the next 4 racing events. Must have competed in the last 3 races or 51% of the season to claim an engine.
RADIATOR AND FAN
1. Radiators must be in front of engine.
2. Overflow must be used.
3. Shroud must cover upper 180 degree of the fan. Shroud must be metal and completely cover fan.
4. Electric fan is OK.
TRANSMISSION
1. Any OEM transmission may be used. Must stock appearing. Automatic or standard is OK. Auto must have functional torque converter.
2. No quick change transmissions.
3. No Bert, Brinn or Falcon type transmissions.
FUEL CELL
1. Fuel cell in steel can is mandatory.
2. Must be mounted behind rear axle with minimum of 2-2 inch by 1/8 steel straps around fuel cells.
3. Fuel filler may not extend outside of body.
4. No electric fuel pumps.
5. Fuel lines must run under floorboards.
6. Racing fuel or straight alcohol (methanol) ONLY.
7. No nitro or nitrous oxide systems.
CLUTCHES
1. Clutch, stock 10 1/2 inch factory clutch and pressure plate. No aluminum pressure plate or flywheels. No double or triple disc. No 10,000 RPM clutches.
WHEELS AND TIRES
1. Hoosier comanchee 26.5 or 27.5, 8" wide series ONLY. No soaking of tires.
2 Steel racing wheels 8" ONLY.
SAFETY
1. Must have all standard safety equipment: window net, belts, shoulder harness, helmet (Snell 98 rating), fire suits, gloves and a fire extinguisher fully charged and mounted within arms reach. No two-way radios or mirrors. A one-way receiving scanner locked to frequency 154.5700 is MANDATORY.
The above rules are set to provide for the orderly conduct of all racing programs at Lorain County Speedway. They are intended as a guideline and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to its participants. Anything not covered should be checked with officials before proceeding. Rules may be changed at any time for the good of the sport of racing. Any interpretation or deviation of the rules will be left to the decision of the officials, whose decision is FINAL.
